A day at the races with a flutter at the bookies is a popular past-time throughout Ireland.

Only a short drive from the Newpark Hotel, Gowran Park has been the home of racing in Kilkenny since 1914 and is the premier race-course in the South East.

The course caters for top-class flat and jump racing, with the annual highlight being the Thyestes Chase in January, the Red Mills Trial Hurdle in February. Many great horses, from Arkle to Danoli have all won at the track.
